Hello Ladies and Gents,
So yeah, this is kind of an awkward reunion after leaving without properly saying goodbye. You guys still out there reading? GOOD! As time has gone by and life has advanced I've often stopped back here to re-read old posts and approve comments. But I have not posted and there is a reason for that. I don't know what to say anymore, I really don't. I have had a severe case of leathery and writer's black coupled with a new job and increasing academic load. That being said, BGOC is still OUR forum. Though I have read and re-read angry comments from people who think anything with the word black on it is separatist and divisive, I still say what we have been doing here is important and therapeutic. It could just be called "Girl on Campus" right? Why must there be discussion of things that specifically effect black girls in college and not every girl in college? That is a post for another day but the main reality is that our reality is different. The things we experience, the trials we face, they are connected to who we are as a race of women. To deny that is to deny a part of our humanity and I'm not willing to do that to make somone who just doesn't get it feel good. Not talking about race doesn't make it go away, it just perpetuates the racial stat quo. (see http://stuffwhitepeopledo.blogspot.com/2009/06/get-upset-when-whiteness-is-momentarily.html)
No one can agree with all I have written and no one can always get where I am coming from. But, looking back on old posts and comments, I must say I'm damn proud that I could reach other black girls and speak to their experiences. This site will continue to be around, you can continue to email me at bgocblogspot@hotmail.com , continue to send me links and comments and I will continue to dialogue with you all while staying Black and Sexy! Keep the love coming because I miss hearing from you. MUAH!
Peace and Love,
Lenny
